Zoom Meetings

The Locomotive Club of Great Britain is pleased to announce the launch of its programme of on-line Zoom meetings. They will take place on the first Thursday of each month starting at 7.30 pm, with the first being on February 5th 2026. The meetings will be chaired by Bob Stonehouse, with Rob Mearman and Jeremy Harrison providing technical management.

The meetings are, in the first instance, free to all comers. The aim is to reach as wide an audience as is feasible, especially to include those Club members who, for whatever reasons, do not attend normally Branch meetings or Reunions. Non-members of LCGB at home and abroad are also welcome to join us. This is a new venture for The Club and the project will be reviewed after the first meetings: assuming everything has gone well there will be more Zoom meetings later in the year. It follows in the successful path set by our fellow railway enthusiast groups such as the SLS, RCTS and the Warwickshire Railway Society.

To register, please complete and submit the appropriate form (below) for the meeting – having done so, you will receive an e-mail with joining details. Alternatively, send an e-mail to lcgb.zoom@gmail.com, no later than the Tuesday before the meeting, giving your name, e-mail address, LCGB membership number, or Society of which you are a member, where you will be joining the meeting from (town, and country if outside the UK), and the meeting(s) you wish to attend.

For the benefit of those unused to attending Zoom meetings, the best way is to do so is by the Zoom Workplace App, which you should download from the Zoom Download Center and then install. Simple instructions for attending Zoom meetings (that I produced a few years ago) are obtainable here.

Please note: All presentations, and included images, are copyright. Do not record or screen save any part of the meeting. It is LCGB policy that, by default, we will not be recording these meetings.

If you have any queries, please contact lcgb.zoom@gmail.com.

The Glorious Steam Railways of India

John Sloane

This presentation is focussed on the many types of steam locos in the North West of India between Bombay, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Delhi with the photos mainly taken in 1976, together with a few from subsequent visits. 1976 was shortly before mass dieselisation when Indian Railways still had well over eight and a half thousand steam locos. The pictures include locos working on the Western, Northern and Central Railways with examples on three gauges - 5ft 6in, Metre and 2ft 6in.

Locomotion No 1 - Its Archaeology and History

Dr Michael Bailey, President, Stephenson Locomotive Society
Thursday 4th June
Geoff was born in Sheffield in 1949, into a railway-mad family, starting his railway enthusiasm at the age of around 18 months. After some early attempts with the family Box Brownie camera in the 1950s, he was given his first ‘proper’ camera for his thirteenth birthday in March 1962, this eventually leading to his career as a Television Cameraman. The first half of the presentation covers his early background before moving on to a variety of high quality (mainly Black & White) images taken around the country during 1962.

All presentations commence at 19:30, with 'virtual doors open’ on Zoom shortly after 19:00.
